During this year a demand for subsidiary coins as unprecedented as it was inexplicable set in. The supplies of ten cent pieces received during July, August, September, and October amounted to $1,750,000 - worth of which only $1,000 worth now remains in the hand of the Government for use, and I am informed on good authority that quantities of coins exceeding those received would have been readily taken up.
